I feel the same way as your sister, though I realize some folks (my grandparents and some clients) still need a way to leave me a message through voicemail because they aren't savvy enough to text. That's where Google Voice and its automatic transcription comes in to save me, it lets them leave a message and sends me a txt or email with the transcribed contents, if I want to review it from a computer I can as well. Works GREAT for me, and gives them that small comfort of hearing my voice before they leave me a message.

The question of etiquette is a good one... and I think it only applies to those iphone users in situations with those noniphone users. For example, my wife used to hate it when I was on my iphone, at any time, even if it was to find our way back to our car after walking for miles in the woods... that is, until she got her own iphone ;)

Personally, I take great pleasure in hearing about the successes of my fellow students, and in supporting them through their failures when asked to. I think it is possible to have the strength to set aside one's own feelings of envy and be happy for friends and colleagues who attain highly desirable jobs.
