Hi, I’m Katie McCurdy. Here are some facts about me:

  1. I’ve had an autoimmune disease called Myasthenia Gravis for over 20 years. It causes weakness in my muscles; mostly my face (my mouth, my eyes) are affected, but sometimes I just get really dang tired.
  2. Regardless, I have boundless enthusiasm for my work as a User Experience (UX) Designer, as my coworkers will attest. I love my job, and my job loves me.
  3. Recently I’ve decided to use my UX skills to help improve healthcare – I especially am interested in trying to solve problems that are relevant to me as a patient. By finding solutions for my own problems, I hope to improve the lives of other patients like me.

  4. As a type 1 diabetic with hypothyroidism, anxiety, and a host of other complex healthcare issues I was comforted reading through your material. Even with different conditions you were able to express how I feel a lot of the time. Your post on visualising and illustrating symptoms and self management were especially interesting… I don’t think I have the time or energy to draw mine… Thank you, and I look forward to reading more about your life and work.
